In 2024 and 2025 King Schools will continue its long-term tradition of supporting aviation with scholarships by providing aspiring and developing CFIs with two major scholarships.

In conjunction with Women in Aviation International (WAI), King Schools will award the WAI Martha King Scholarship for Female Flight Instructors. This scholarship, valued at more than $20,000, will be awarded to a female WAI member holding at least a commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating, or an existing CFI certificate.  The scholarship consists of lifetime access to the entire King Schools library, valued at over $15,000, plus $5,000 cash to assist with their flight training.

The application window opens on August 1, 2024 and the deadline for applications is December 1st,October 11, 2024. The winner will be honored at the 2025 WAI Conference in Denver, Colorado.  This will be the tenth year King Schools has offered this scholarship.

The second major scholarship King Schools is offering in 2024 is the National Association of Flight Instructors/King Schools Scholarship for Flight Instructors., The NAFI award is also valued at $20,000 and consists of lifetime access to the entire King Schools library plus $5,000 in cash.

Applications for the NAFI/King Schools Scholarship are now being accepted and the deadline for applications will be January 3, 2025. The NAFI Scholarship winner will be honored at the 2025 SUN ‘n FUN in Lakeland, Florida.  This will be the ninth year for the NAFI/King Schools scholarship award.

Both scholarships can be used for an initial Flight Instructor Certificate or any CFI add-on rating.

“We get many exceptional applications for both scholarships every year, and it is really hard to choose the winners,” said Martha King. “There are specific criteria that are important to us. For example, we take a look at the commitment the person has made in aviation so far, and the impact we think they will make in the future.”

“Past recipients have included professional pilots, but also aviators who may have chosen a different career path but are passionate aviators and flight instructors,” she added. “They’re all dedicated to lifelong learning and giving back to their communities.”

Scholarship recipients have come from across the nation, are of all ages, and each of them has a unique story to tell. You can read about them at KingSchools.com/scholarship.

Winning the award can be very motivating.  For one recipient, winning the WAI scholarship showed her how much she was capable of.

“The Kings’ generosity literally changed my life,” said 2023 WAI Martha King Scholarship for Female Flight Instructors winner, Pilar Wolfsteller. “I had no idea that I was smart enough to become a flight instructor, and honestly, I was even a little terrified to try. The scholarship was the kick in the pants I needed to push me way out of my comfort zone.” Wolfsteller passed her CFI checkride in April 2023.

“Judging by the quality of our applicants every year, I believe the future of aviation is in very good hands,” added John King. “We are so happy to be able to contribute something that makes aviation a better place for everyone. And every single one of our scholarship recipients is determined to make a positive difference to this community we love so much.”
